Greece Emerges as a Promising Destination for Indonesian Hospitality Professionals

Indonesia and Greece strengthen cooperation as labor demand continues to grow across hospitality, tourism, and related industries.

Jakarta — Greece is strengthening its position as one of Europe’s promising destinations for Indonesian migrant workers as demand for foreign labor continues to rise. According to Indonesia’s Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), Greece is projected to require approximately 50,000 foreign workers in 2026, creating significant opportunities across several industries, including hospitality and tourism.

The projection was highlighted during a meeting between Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Christina Aryani and representatives of the Greek government, where both parties discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in labor mobility. The dialogue focused on strengthening official placement mechanisms while ensuring worker protection remains a priority.

The hospitality sector is expected to become one of the major contributors to Greece’s workforce demand. Hotels, resorts, restaurants, and tourism businesses continue seeking skilled professionals to support the country’s growing tourism industry, particularly during the peak travel season.

“Greece has become one of Indonesia’s potential partners for expanding formal migrant worker placement, supported by increasing labor demand and positive bilateral relations,” KP2MI stated.

The Indonesian government also emphasized that future worker placement will continue to prioritize legal recruitment procedures, competency development, and adequate preparation before departure. These measures are intended to ensure Indonesian workers remain competitive while receiving proper protection throughout the employment process.

For hospitality professionals, Greece offers opportunities to gain international experience in one of Europe’s leading tourism destinations. Employers continue to value candidates with practical hospitality skills, English communication abilities, and a strong understanding of international service standards.
